Project Literacy is honored to be the 2024 recipient of the B. R. Ashby, M.D. Award for Outstanding Community Service sponsored by the Danville Regional Foundation.
"Once you learn to read, you will be forever free." - Frederick Douglass
Danville, Virginia
Did you know that nearly 20% of your fellow Danvillians struggle to read and write? That's nearly one in every five citizens of the city. You may believe that you don't know anyone who struggles with literacy; and yet, with nearly one in five people affected, you probably do. People who struggle to read and write often hide the fact even from their closest loved ones.
They learn coping strategies and often suffer in silence.
How can you help?
By giving just an hour or two of your time each week as a volunteer tutor, you can help improve literacy in our community. Download the volunteer form below!
You can also help support Project Literacy's work in the community by donating so we can continue to provide these services to our neighbors. Click the Donate tab in the menu above or click here. Donating to Project Literacy is a wonderful way to celebrate a birthday, honor someone, or remember a life well-lived.
